Joanne Rinker

Joanne Rinker

Joanne Rinker is a Master’s level dietitian.  She has her BS and MS in Human Nutrition from West Virginia University. Joanne is currently in her twelfth year as a Registered Dietitian and tenth year as a certified diabetes educator.  She has worked in Public Health with the North Carolina Diabetes Prevention and Control Program since May 2007.  For the past six years, she’s been working on the implementation and facilitation of the North Carolina Diabetes Education Recognition Program.  As the program coordinator, Joanne has built the largest American Diabetes Association (ADA) accredited site in the nation.

She currently works closely with 39 local health departments in 50 counties with 58 service delivery sites.  This program has increased access to diabetes care and improved health disparities among patients with diabetes in North Carolina.  Currently 63% of the patients who complete this program have an A1c of 7% or less.

Joanne recently was named AADE 2013 Diabetes Educator of the Year and will use that opportunity to spread the word about the relationship between diabetes, hearing loss and depression.

She is married and the proud mother of two little girls.  Her interests include, running with friends, being challenged by Warrior Dash and mud run events, watching live music with her husband, and taking family vacations!
